"The Adelaide University Surgical Society (AUSS) is an educational body founded in 2003. It's primary goal is to provide educational and training opportunities to medical students with an interest in surgery. Within Australia, we hold the privilege of being the first and strongest society of its kind, catering specifically to surgically oriented interests.
The events held by the society reflect the nature of AUSS, focussing on teaching and exposure to a wide variety of surgical skills. Our workshops provide an opportunity for medical students to gain and hone skill sets which will remain with them throughout their profession, surgical or otherwise. Practical sessions such as the Suturing Workshops and Orthopaedic Bone School allow students to get valuable practice at common procedures. This is augmented with teaching classes; Anatomy Series, Careers Series and SWOTVAC surgical revision lectures. 2012 saw two fantastic new events added to our schedule. The Inter-University ""Emergency Medical Challenge"" as well as the CBA Financial series for graduating students were both great successes and will become a regular part of our future programs.
Currently, the AUSS boasts approximately 500 members. Membership and participation in all our events is completely free of charge. Our events are unparalleled in their extra-curricular surgical teaching for medical students and we continue to club ourselves as being the premier educational body within the medical school."
